"lol tiktok users would rather learn mandarin than come to tumblr" yeah man that's crazy. who would have thought that people from the video-based dopamine-machine app wouldn't decide to join the text- and image- based no-algorithm website?

Xiaohongshu user and figure skater 花滑小明 has uploaded a ton of videos of him doing Yuri!!! on Ice programs! Here is the one, the only… Eros.

He does match the canon choreo the best he can, although he mostly does double jumps. It hardly matters though! You can see his account here

Okay so I'm not American and I don't live there but I still decided to download xiaohongshu (rednote). The only social media I actually use and post on is Tumblr but I wanted to have little nosey lol.

First of all it was really quite funny and heartwarming to see the interactions between the Americans and Chinese rednote users, there where so many Chinese internet slang cheat sheets and memes being exchanged and taught, like the American tiktok refugees where so ready to learn a whole new language so they could participate in meme culture and I love it, lmao not to mention how there's a Chinese saying where it basically means cute aggression, but for when they see a cute cat and when you translate it to English it reads as I want to lick your cat and that was definitely a bit of a funny misunderstanding lmao.

But overall I kinda love how petty the Americans from tiktok where, they literally said we are going to go straight to the supposed source. ngl not the finest moment when asked for help on English homework the answers given where wrong lmao, it's apparently being agreed upon that when asking for English homework help on rednote, it's best to ask a British user instead of an American one lol.

But it is nice to see people exchanging culture and joy even with a language barrier and the Chinese users where and are so welcoming.

Okay So I'm Not American And I Don't Live There But I Still Decided To Download Xiaohongshu (rednote).

I generally try to keep this account to Fandom stuff, but I don't really have anywhere else to rant about this. So, it's going on here.

In regards to the TikTok Little Red Book protest going on; I do want to point out that the reactions from the Americans about seemingly mundane stuff that should be obvious is actually pretty normal for Americans that are experiencing life outside of the U.S. for the first time. We're so used to the fucked up parts of our country that it's easy to forget how bad it is. That the idea of something like Universal Healthcare, for example, isn't some revolutionary thing but the norm in most places. It's like living with chronic pain or an abusive family. You know it's not right, but it's your normal. That's what you know, and you're so busy managing it that fixing it seems so far out of reach that it's barely worth thinking about. So you grit your teeth and act like you're fine because it's normal. Because if it's not normal, well...

I do love seeing the connections and interactions this is causing, though. It's what the internet was made for. What all these social media platforms were made for. I've moved a lot, lived in a lot of places, and I've found that people are the same wherever you go. Mild tweaks here and there, but humans are humans. And I love seeing people realize that.

I do hope something good comes from this protest. And make no mistake, that's what this is. A protest built on spite. In fact, it kind of reminds me of the Boston Tea Party (albite with less property damage). It wasn't about the tea in the same way this isn't about TikTok. They're both a result of the people feeling ignored by their government and actively giving Big Brother the middle finger.

But i am glad that, the very least, people are making connections that, under any other circumstance, may never have happened. It's a lovely thing to see, and i hope something good comes from all of it.

its so funny how badly the tiktok ban backfired. they ban what they think is a sketchy chinese app, so people flock to another, even more chinese app, and become closer than ever to chinese people.

小红书 Vocab

小红书 (also referred to as xiaohongshu or XHS) is a Chinese image-based social media platform. It is a combination of the feed, likes, shopping, and video aspects of instagram, with the ~aesthetics~ and majority female audience of pintrest. I've grown really fond of it and found that it's algorithm is better than instagram and MUCH better than pintrest with giving me content I enjoy.

I'm going to offer some vocab that is either unique to the platform, or slang that is found on the platform (esp in bullet comments). I don't want this to be too long, so some terms may be omitted if they are found on many other social media apps

APP 小红书: Literally "Little Red Book". Probably a play off of Chairman Mao's book of speeches and writings which is also referred to as the Little Red Book. The app is not at all political, but more so trying to evoke the "essentiality" and "knowledge" aspect of the term. 笔记: Notes. XHS's name for its posts 收藏: Favorites. Separate from likes, these are bookmarked collections. This and Likes can be hidden 赞过: Likes. Notes that you "heart" will appear here. 关注: Notes from people you follow 发现: Discovery tab 附近: Recent notes

Camping COMMENTS (Things you'll see in tags/descriptions/bullet comments) PLOG: Picture blog. Usually like a blog, but with photos/photo collage (also sometimes vlogs get this tag even though they're videos) 爱自己的100种方式: Originally from a feature on Douyin that would give a "treat yourself" style prompt if you comment this phrase 泰酷辣: Cool. Took off from this meme. “太酷啦” 上岸: Similar to "Goals". Usually posted to applaud an achievement/amazing life experience 巨: Super. Usually used in describing really tasty food “巨巨巨好吃” cos: Cosplay emo: The original meaning—emotional. More often used to mean a depressed mood than the style/subculture 磕: to ship a couple (cp) For the Lesbians t: Tomboy/masc lesbian (Sub-types include 铁t,奶t,娘t, 爷t, 长发t, 短发t) p: Femme lesbian (p said to come from "Pretty girl" or “婆”) h: neither femme nor masc/futch le/les/啦啦: Lesbian 双女主: F/F couple (IRL or in fiction) 淘淘乐/TTL:T/T relationship 泡泡龙/PPL: P/P relationship 黄鹤楼HI: H/H relationship TPL: T/P relationship 🐟: Ultra passive bottoms
