FOUND FAMILY COMMITING WAR CRIMES FOR EACH OTHER.
Seriously, how are there people who don't see them as a found family? They're literally the most wholesome part of the series. They better be reunited soon, and I want an entire episode dedicated to the afterparty.
"Kunikida is alive. If he died, there's no way I wouldn't have sensed it. Not just Kunikida either. As long as at least one agency member remains alive... They will never stop resisting. This battle will be won by my team."
"Atsushi is a cinnamon roll ray of sunshine."
WRONG.
Atsushi is a little sass who would do anything he needs to in order to survive. He saved dazai (when he intended to rob him )and then was upset he wouldn't thank him.
He shoved over the trash can in the second episode and basically told dazai to khs.
He had knowledge of the future, a future where four million people were going to die, and deliberately used that knowledge just to mess with Dazai because he could.
He will call you out on your flaws and judge you for them. Sure he's nice and a people pleaser a lot of the time, but inside, he's a little judgy sass and we love him all the more for it.
I really like how the unwritten message of Beast is that anyone could become anyone given the circumstances they were put into. Atsushi could become a murderer, Akutagawa could learn to tame the beast inside of him when surrounded by good people. It questions the idea that people are innately good or innately evil. Because while yes, Atsushi is a murderer burdened by guilt and fear, and Akutagawa is a detective who lacks a drive for helping people and has no qualms resorting to...unsavory methods to get results, at the end, we see that despite Akutagawa being told he's meant to be evil, he STILL wants to try to learn. To learn how to live a good life, learn how to tame the beast. And at the end of the day, while Atsushi still wants to protect people, he learns to kill them without a moment's hesitation. The only person he can protect is Kyouka, and he is almost TOO protective of her. I just think it's really cool that you can take these characters, one who is "innately good" and one that's "innately evil" and switch their circumstances, and you can see how they'd really end up. How a good person can become a murderer when surrounded by evil, how a bad person can quench the thirst for vengeance inside of him when surrounded by good people.
Chapter 121.5 reaction cuz why not.
Spoilers for chapter 121.5.
THE THING HE SAID THE THING-
They make me feral, crazy. Literally screamed. Looks like the power of totally-not-gay-dying-for-your-rival-and-the-person-you-totally- hate-the-most-in-the-world-worked.
Not dead?? what a shocker...
Also, love Atsushi in this moment. "And the most important reason why I did this was because I literally have no other ideas and also I'm going crazy so totally-not-gay-dying-to-protect-the-person-I-hate seemed like the best idea at this moment."
Same place we've been for years, Atsushi, hasn't changed
Obviously, we all knew that, keep up Atsushi, I mean, perfectly clear.
This is random, but I kinda like how it shows Dazai "striding" like he's totally chill with what's going on and I imagine in Atsushi's brain rn it's like "step yep I know how to walk and that's about the only thing I can remember right now so I'm just gonna do that."
SOMEONE GIVE THIS POOR BABY A WARM BOWL OF CHAZUKE AND A HUG, SOMEONE DO IT RIGHT NOW.
Uhm. K. Well, that was a roller coaster. Also, I really don't think having Atsushi relive his past trauma is gonna help rn, we're trying to minimize the breakdowns, feeling strongly to remember the director doesn't feel like the best of ideas right now Dazai, but that might just be me. I mean what's one more emotional breakdown amirite-
And nowwww, we wait.
I cannot put into words how much this line from the fifteen light novel means to me.
One hundred matches. They played close to a hundred games against each other. Because they're both just fifteen year old boys. Fifteen year old boys who were forced to grow up way too fast in a world that only dealt them trashy cards. Two boys who claim to hate each other...who found an equal in each other. Someone else they could be a child with. And in middle of a dangerous mission, a mission that involves Chuuya believing he's a god of destruction, a mission that involves Dazai searching for the old boss because he was forced to false-witness his murder, in middle of all of this, they played a hundred games at an arcade. Because they were just kids.
I can't with this New York Times article

It's such an underrated little detail that Atsushi, in fact, did not want to join the Agency, because he thought the job was too crazy and violent for him, and he firmly believed every single one of them was nuts (which he's not wrong). Dazai simply manipulated convinced him to join by pointing out the fact that Atsushi didn't really have money or friends. So he was stuck with the weirdos.
Like, he seriously just wants a paycheck and chazuke. Oh sure, he found a family in the ADA, but I'm sure he thinks he's the only sane one there.
I bet Chuuya was terrified of dentists when he first joined the Mafia.
Because like. He grew up on the streets. I doubt any of them ever exactly got health insurance.
So the first time Mori informed him what a dentist was and how often he was required to go, he actually freaked out.
Chuuya: what do you mean you sit in a chair and let a stranger tamper around inside of you?!
Mori: It's just your teeth, Chuuya, and it's required.
He won't refuse an order, so he goes, terrified. And the second he enters and sees the chair he immediately starts "Oh grantors of dark disgrace-"
Only for Dazai to show up because Mori made him tag along in case Chuuya tried to get out of it. He had to stand there the whole time, because if he let go, Chuuya's power would destroy the office on its own.
And even though he's become used to it by now, Dazai will never. ever. stop making fun of how terrified he was that first visit, nor will he ever let him live it down.
They're on a mission, and Chuuya's trying to be intimidating. Only for Dazai to tell the enemy, "oh, don't be scared of this chibi. He peed his pants the first time he went to the dentist." (he did not. or at least, he claims he didn't. We'll never know the true story).
Needless to say, Chuuya made sure that any enemy who Dazai told didn't live to share the info. Which may have been Dazai's plan all along, it's hard to say. Either way, no matter how much time has passed, Dazai still can't resist making fun of him for him once in a while.
And after the mersault arc, when Chuuya couldn't get the fangs out, he may or may not have said "Oh no, perhaps you should go to a dentist-"
Chuuya kicked him in his broken leg.
Chuuya can't tie a tie. This is canon, you won't convince me otherwise.
He grew up on the streets. When he was sixteen, he wore the usual Mafia getup, but no tie. In his usual outfit, he wears a bolo tie.
Therefore, it is scientifically proven that Chuuya cannot, in fact, tie a tie.
