Shanks x Fem!Reader. Fluff. 609 words.

Desc: You're a picky and bratty drinker, fortunately Shanks is there to "protect" you.

You and Beckman sit at a bar table, you holding his mug of alcohol. Despite no one forcing you, you’ve been sipping it only to judge him. “No one’s forcing you to drink it.” He says to you, getting annoyed as you take another drink of rum, making an extremely exaggerated negative reaction. His eyebrow twitches when you look at him with pity, as if he were some poor beggar forced to drink slop to forget his troubles.

“C’mon take it easy~ She’s just giving her opinion.” Your boyfriend walks up to behind you, putting his arm around your shoulders.

“She’s not voicing anything.” The vice captain points out, eyebrows furrowing in further annoyance when you give him another look of pity, your eyes looking from his mug back to him. Before he can voice any complaints the barmaid comes with your margarita, your attention immediately going to it instead as you slide the drink haphazardly back to Beck.

“Oo something drinkable!” You say happily and take a taste, Shanks biting his lip to contain a smile at your bratty behavior. He used to be a victim of it before, a troubling time, but eventually learned it was simply the way you were. Once that was in his mind it wasn’t long before he found it cute. Now he watches as you happily sip on your drink.

“Can I have a small drink, doll?” He asks you, flinching when you give him a harshly disgusted look. “Ouch, you’re breaking my heart here.” He frowns a bit and your expression changes to a giggle, picking the drink up and putting it to his lips.

“Fine~ I guess I can spare a drink to a poor soul.” You tease the redhead, who plays along.

“Thank you my liege.” You smile confidently at that… before Shanks takes a deep breath and slurps the entire thing up.

“WHA- HEY!” You yell and he bursts out laughing.

“Thanks for sparing such a drink onto me, it was wonderful!” You glare at his laughing self, then sigh and place the glass back on the counter with a sulk.

“My drink…” He leans down and gives you a smooch on the cheek at your sulking.

“I’ll order you another one.” He looks to the barmaid. “Another sweet nectar for her royal highness, please.” Shanks motions to you and the barmaid’s eyes meet yours.

“You don’t have to call me that!” You say quickly to the barmaid as damage control, but she already leaves to make it with a final gaze that lingers judgmentally. Once she’s gone you stare at Shanks like you’re trying to explode him with your mind. He puts a hand on your head.

“Relax~” He pets you softly, but when he tries to kiss you on the lips you turn to the side. “That’s how it’s gonna be?” He raises a brow then smiles mischievously. Before you know it he’s moving to be in your view. When you look away he’s there again. It’s no use, everytime you look in a different direction he slides to be in it until you’re resisting a smile. “Is that a smile I see?”

“It’s not, your eyes are worsening.” To your answer he hums while leaning in closer until your noses are touching, waiting until you end up letting out a small “pfft” before he grins and kisses you on the lips.

‘They’re like two cats.’ Beckman thinks to himself, forgotten as he drinks apparently undrinkable rum from his mug. Quite a pair, the two of you are, but it is amusing watching. He’s definitely not letting you get your paws on his drinks anymore, though.

Short, but i had fun with the scenario. Just how it turned out. Also thanks for the compliment. Sorry if I don't sound excited im tired rn.

Compliments

Shanks x reader. Male in mind but nothing is gendered. 500ish words

Shanks is used to compliments, he gets them often because he’s objectively handsome. Even his faults, like the missing arm and scars, add to his charm. Still, there are some things that catch him off guard. Like you.

“Your face is really pleasing to look at.” You tell him.

“Thanks, kid, look all you want. Consider it a perk of having me as your captain!” He’s got the biggest grin on his face, just because he’s complimented often doesn’t mean he dislikes it now.

“I do, and I will continue to do so.” You give him more to eat. “Your lips are a little chapped but the way they’re framed by your stubble makes them so kissable.” Shanks flushes slightly but his smile gets wider. 

“You’re really laying it on, huh? I never thought his ego could get bigger but I can practically see it inflating.” Beckman jokes, lighting a cigarette. “You only joined a couple months ago and he walks around like a show dog now.” 

“C’mon~ Why shouldn’t I? Clearly I’m doing a favor to the world, right?” Shanks dismisses, happy from your compliments that are always thought out. Whether it’s complimenting the shade of red his hair is or how his wrinkles compliment his features, he loves it. The way you say it too, you aren’t flirting with him, just saying your truth. 

“You’ve got him all buttered up.” Beckman’s almost disgusted, seeing Shanks at his grown age getting all fuzzy from some compliments. Though to be honest if he got thoughtful comments about himself as often as you do to Shanks he might be the same. He won’t say that though, someone has to keep the Captain’s ego down. “It’s hurting my eyes.” Shanks huffs slightly at that.

“No need to be jealous, you can be the third handsomest on the ship. After (Y/N).” The redhead states, flirting softly then looking to you for a reaction. You give him a nod.

“Beck is handsome too.” No reaction. Shanks feels slightly dejected, but still nice. This just means that you really are giving these comments from objective observation. He does feel bad just getting all of this without giving you anything back, though. 

“So are you, maybe my charm just attracts other charming people.” He winks.

…

You nod, Shanks sighs. “Take the compliment kid.”

“Sorry. it’s just… I’m a little distracted right now.” You respond.

“Charming enough that I’ve got your head in the clouds, now?” He half-jokes.

“Yeah. Your lips really do look kissable right now. I thought about grabbing your waist too, it would feel really nice in my hands.” 

"..." Shanks flushes again, are you flirting with him or not? 

“Hand on waist… so nice, when your face flushes it’s close to the color of your hair. It’s really cute.” You look to the distance, your mind wandering. It clicks to the captain and first mate, maybe this isn’t flirting OR compliments to be nice. You might just be too honest with an inability to keep your thoughts to yourself.
